1. Supported 30 first-time marginalized adolescent mothers with neonatal care kits (supported by JCO
Board)
In South Sudan, many women face extreme poverty, with most living on less than $1 per day. Economic
opportunities, especially among pastoral communities, are limited, leaving women unable to provide for
their families. Those who have lost their husbands during the war struggle to survive, often relying on
relatives and well-wishers for support. Additionally, the country grapples with high rates of sexual violence
and rape. Jamnel Care Organization (JCO) conducted an assessment and identified a critical issue - pregnant
women lacked the resources to care for themselves and their families, and the absence of hygiene and
neonatal care kits contributed to neonatal deaths. In response, JCO initiated a project to assist the 30 most
vulnerable women by providing neonatal kits that included essential items like diapers, clothing, hygiene
supplies, and health-related items to address this pressing need.
In addition to providing neonatal kits to vulnerable women, the project also offered crucial psychological
support through pre and post-natal counseling and education. Furthermore, the initiative was
groundbreaking, being the first of its kind in the community. As a consequence, other organizations
supporting women have adopted similar approaches, leading to a reduction in infant mortality resulting
from preventable issues such as inadequate hygiene and the absence of neonatal kits.
2. Distributed 344 dignity kits to adolescent girls and boys through dignity kit programming and sexual
and reproductive health education (supported by the pollination project)
Jamnel Care Organization conducted a project that focused on dignity kit programming and sexual and
reproductive health education in three schools in Juba. A notable accomplishment was the inclusion of boys
in the program, promoting their understanding and support for girls during menstrual periods and educating
them on sexual reproductive health. This inclusive approach aimed to encourage boys to become allies of
girls and promote positive masculinity among adolescents, ensuring a more comprehensive and supportive
environment for both genders.
3. Erected 5 Hand washing stands in Public Market Places As COVID-19 Preventive Measure
As part of their COVID-19 response, five hand washing stands were installed in public marketplaces as a
preventive measure to reduce the spread of the virus. These efforts were complemented by awareness
campaigns focused on COVID-19.
4. Education Sponsorship Program
We at Jamnel Care Organization are dedicated to working with adolescent girls, and nothing brings us
greater joy than seeing girls attending school. With the guidance of community leaders and head teachers,
we selected six of the most vulnerable young girls, three from primary school and three from secondary
school (in class 8 and Senior 4). Our goal is to enable these girls to stay in school, successfully complete
their final examinations, and open doors to brighter futures.
5. Promoting A Safe Responsive Sexual Reproductive Health Environment For Women And Girls In

introduction or enhancement of a 'zero-tolerance policy' against sexual and gender-based violence. Jamnel
Care Organization plays a pivotal role in ensuring a strengthened legal framework that prioritizes the
protection of women and girls, creating a lasting impact on the community.
6. Adolescent Girls Strategy (Supported by Global Fund for Women)
Through this program, JCO formed 6 holistic clubs in 6 schools within Juba. These acted as GBV Clubs
too in which 60 adolescents were trained on prevention, response and advocacy for GBV related issues both
in schools and in the community. GBV ambassadors were selected and training on leadership was done to
ensure the girls are empowered to advocate against GBV on media. Monthly GBV related topic debates
were done monthly in each school for a period of 6 months. This was meant to increase the adolescents’
capacity to think out of the box, research and learn more on gender equality.
The project promoted positive masculinity training in which 60 adolescent boys were engaged in an array
of topics including Gender Based Violence, Consent, Toxic Masculinity, Positive Masculinity, Gender
Equality, Gender Equity, Negotiation Skills, De –Escalation, Stepping up. This training created a positive
impact on engaging adolescent boys as allies to prevent and respond to GBV.
JCO engaged in media talks and shows for adolescents to create massive awareness on the role of
adolescents in ensuring gender equality and responding to gender based violence. Media talks is a way of
creating massive advocacy and awareness through the radio stations. These talks also built the confidence
of the adolescent girls, promoting advocacy and communication skills.
Economic empowerment of 10 out of school adolescent girls formed a major component of this project
and it involved training the girls on hairdressing and soap making. The training was integrated with life
skills, communication skills, marketing skills, customer care skills, financial literacy and VSLA
component. The training achieved its objective which was to ensure promotion of livelihoods and economic
status of the most vulnerable out of school girls. Distribution of startup kits to the girls, introduction of the
saving schemes as well as attachments to other operating enterprises ensured absorption in the job market.
